Planning Commission approves first phase of Saks redevelopment

The Pittsburgh Planning Commission on Tuesday approved the first phase of Millcraft Investments’ development plan for the former Saks Fifth Avenue location in downtown Pittsburgh.

The two-phase project will start with the construction of a six-story, 570-space parking garage as well as three retail spaces at the street level.

The second phase of the development is expected to include 77 condo units. Millcraft is seeking planning approval on that phase at a later date.

The development, located at 350 Oliver Ave., is being pursued in partnership with McKnight Realty Partners.

The overall development is expected to be a $60 million to $70 million investment.

Chad Wheatley, Vice President of construction for Millcraft, said the firm is planning to break ground on phase one in April.

Millcraft Investments first presented its plans for the project Feb. 10.
